HOUSTON – Hines, the international real estate firm based in Houston, is opening an office in Greece.

Greece has been in a recession for six years and in the first quarter of the year, Greece’s jobless rate stood at 27.8%. But there are projections of improvement and analysts say Greece bottomed out in 2013.

Hines said Paul Gomopoulos has been promoted to Managing Director and will be relocating to Athens to begin Hines operations in Greece.

We believe that the time is right for Hines to bring its world class real estate development and investment capabilities to Greece. The country is transforming and the entrance of Hines and other institutional quality players will further promote this transformation,” commented Gomopoulos.

The firm’s historical and current portfolio of projects that are underway, completed, acquired and managed for third parties includes 1,317 properties representing more than 541 million square feet of office, residential, mixed-use, industrial, hotel, medical and sports facilities, as well as large, master-planned communities and land developments.

Currently, Hines manages 391 properties totaling 161 million square feet, which includes 89.1 million square feet for third parties. With offices in 115 cities in 18 countries, and controlled assets valued at approximately $28.2 billion, Hines is one of the largest real estate organizations in the world.
