Crescent Prepares to Break Ground on 30-story Downtown Tower

6 Houston Center CrescentHOUSTON – Crescent Real Estate Holdings LLC announced it has hired Balfour Beatty Construction as the general contractor for 6 Houston Center and the downtown Houston project will break ground this summer.

Located on Block 95, bounded by Rusk, Caroline, Walker and San Jacinto streets, the 30-story, 600,000-square-foot office tower will be the latest addition to the Houston Center development.

Crescent is led by John Goff of Fort Worth, a developer who has developed and owned a number of projects in Houston and across the nation.

“The selection of a general contractor is a milestone toward the groundbreaking of the property which is scheduled for this summer,” Crescent said in a news release.

6 Houston Center will have a rooftop gardens, fitness and conference center, a 9-level parking garage, and a skybridge connection to 1 Houston Center/LyondellBasell Tower. The building will have LEED Gold certification.

“Balfour Beatty has an exceptional reputation of delivering projects on schedule and on budget and their experienced project team was an ideal choice for 6 Houston Center,” said Joseph F. Pitchford, senior vice president, development, Crescent Real Estate Equities, LLC.

Balfour Beatty is the general contractor for Energy Center Four, located in Houston’s Energy Corridor and a joint venture partner on the new convention center hotel Marriott Marquis in downtown Houston.

The 6 Houston Center Building and the Marriott Marquis are significant additions to the east side of downtown. At one time, the eastern part of downtown Houston was lackluster and lonely. But over the last decade or so the development of Hess Tower, Hilton Americas, Discovery Green, and Marvy Finger’s One Park Place and other new development, the east side of downtown has gained momentum.

Chrissy Wilson of Jones Lang LaSalle is leasing the 6 Houston project.
