HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Houston continues to attract new restaurants at a rapid clip that would impress any fast-food operator.

“The fast-casual dining sector looks to remain red-hot with concepts such as Uberrito, Checkers & Rally’s, Salata and B. Good expanding or moving into the Houston market,” Transwestern said in its first quarter retail report. “However, this trend will continue to have negative impacts on traditional dine-in restaurants.”

Checkers Restaurants, a Tampa-based burger chain, said it expects to open 20 quick-service eateries in the Houston area this year.

Paul Vernon, Executive Vice President in the Retail Division for Henry S. Miller Brokerage, represented The Toasted Yolk Café in two leases in the Houston and Sugar Land markets.

A new Toasted Yolk franchisee leased 5,000-SF second-generation restaurant space in the Americana Shopping Center at the southeast quadrant of Westheimer and Fountainview Roads, Toasted Yolk joins Los Cucos Mexican Café, Chama Gaúcha Brazilian Steakhouse and Mayuri India Restaurant.

Toasted Yolk Café also leased space next to Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille in Sugar Land Town Square. Paul Vernon of Henry S. Miller Brokerage represents Toasted Yolk.

“As in the past few years, another inherent part of the retail real estate growth is the aggressive growth of new national, regional, and local restaurant operations of all types and sizes,” Wulfe & Co. said in its 25th Annual Retail Survey. “Houston has gained national and international recognition for its many outstanding new, innovative and creative food venues. From casual dining to upscale specialty dining, the restaurants generate traffic, create energy and bring life to a project and play an ever-increasing role in its success and vitality.”

Nationwide, restaurant and bar sales in March were up 0.4 percent, according to Colliers International.
