Several Texas Journalists Win NAREE Journalism Awards

LAS VEGAS — Several Texas journalists were recognized recently with journalism awards from the National Association of Real Estate Editors.

A panel of judges from Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University selected the winners of the 68th Annual Journalism Awards. The NAREE awards recognize excellence in reporting, writing and editing commercial and residential real estate stories across a range of categories.

The Houston Chronicle’s Katherine Feser received a Silver award for her weekly “Prime Property” e-newsletter. Judges commented that the newsletter “has snappy teasers that make readers want to click through to engaging stories about the city’s commercial real estate scene.”

Feser received another Bronze award for a collection of local real estate tweets.

Nancy Sarnoff of the Chronicle received a Silver award in the category Best Audio or Video Real Estate Report for her podcast, “Looped In.” After Hurricane Harvey, she created a series on the impact of the storm.

Houston broadcast journalist Florian Martin, Houston Public Media was recognized as a Bronze winner for his report on the apartment market in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Freelancer journalist Cynthia Lescalleet received a Bronze Award for an article about a man who built a castle in the suburbs of Houston.

Ralph Bivins of Realty News Report won a Gold Award in the best column category for a piece about the Astrodome.

NAREE presented the awards at its 52nd Annual Real Estate Journalism Conference at the Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas.

Matt Clark of Newsday received NAREE’s Platinum Award for Best Individual Entry for his coverage on property tax in New York.
