AUSTIN – Austin developers have announced plans for The Independent, a proposed 58-story residential tower that reportedly would be the tallest building in Austin and the tallest residential tower west of the Mississippi River, the developers said.

The 370-unit condominium project will be located in downtown Austin at the northeast corner of West Third Street and West Avenue.

The site is in the Seaholm District, a redevelopment zone that once housed a power plant and public utilities. Shonda Novak of the Austin American-Statesman first reported the story.

The developers, Austin-based firms Constructive Ventures and Aspen Heights, said a timetable for the project, designed by Rhode: Partners, would be announced later this year.

Home prices will range from $300,000 to $3 million. Units will range from 675 to 3,485 square feet, with floor plans featuring one to three bedrooms.

Perry Lorenz, principal of Constructive Ventures, said the project has excellent proximity to downtown’s trail network, new library and retail.

Greg Henry is founder and CEO of Aspen Heights, a partner in the 950,000-square-foot development. Urbanspace, a firm led by Kevin Burns, has been selected to lead the sales and marketing efforts.
