Minute Maid Moving HQ to Atlanta From Texas

SUGAR LAND, Texas – (Realty News Report) – The Minute Maid company, part of Coca-Cola, is relocating to Atlanta, according to a report from the Atlanta bureau of CoStar News.

Minute Maid’s offices have been located in the Houston since 1967. That’s about to change.

Minute Maid is pulling its operations office out of Houston, relocating to Atlanta, the home base of the Coca-Cola corporation, according to CoStar News, which first reported the story.

Minute Maid has hired JLL to sublease its Houston-area offices – 41,114 SF in the 2150 Town Square Place building in the Sugar Land Town Square development created by Planned Community Developers. The Town Square development, located on the southwest side near Southwest Freeway and Highway 6, includes the classic City Hall for the Sugar Land municipality.

In the mid-1960s, Coca-Cola decided to move its Minute Maid unit to Houston. About 40 years later, Minute Maid cut a deal with the economic development organization in Sugar Land, an arrangement stipulating that Minute Maid would receive cash incentives paid by the city over 10 years. The deal also called for Minute Maid to occupy 100,000 SF of office space.

“The relocation mutually benefited both entities, bringing with it at least 275 jobs and $10.8 million in capital investments,” Sugar Land’s economic development organization said in a now-outdated case study. “The Coca-Cola Corporation has been pleased with the relocation, renewing their lease for another ten years, with no incentives from the City.”

The renewed lease of the Minute Maid office space that’s now up for sublease expires at the end of 2029.

Minute Maid’s departure is not expected to impact its sponsorship of the Houston Astros baseball stadium in downtown. It has been called Minute Maid Park since 2002.

Minute Maid Park features a replica of an old steam locomotive over the left field wall. The train pulls an open cargo car full of oversized, fake oranges, paying homage to the juice company.

Coca-Cola has laid off employees and restructures its real estate and facility. It also eliminated Tab, its first-ever diet drink.
