HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Los Tios, part of Houston’s Mexican Food scene for 60 years, is expanding to Central Texas, where it will start dishing out tacos, enchiladas and puffy queso dishes soon, in relatively short order.
Los Tios is part of Adair Concepts, a family-owned, Houston-based restaurant group, that operates a variety of restaurants, including eateries that aren’t in the universally adored Tex-Mex genre.
Adair’s mushrooming outside of its Houston backyard starts with the 2024 opening of a Los Tios in Fredericksburg, followed by San Antonio in early 2025.
The Adair Concepts family makes its first steps out of Space City by with a 2024 opening in the Hill Country community of Fredericksburg, which is not far from the boyhood home of President Lyndon Baines Johnson. The Fredericksburg area is also known a prime location for growing peaches.
The city’s first Los Tios (the brand’s seventh location in total) will open at 203 E. San Antonio St., occupying the former August E’s Restaurant in a 5,000-SF structure in the heart of the town’s historic district.
A Houston Tex-Mex legacy brand – famous for its signature puffy queso and introducing the Bayou City to the pleasures of the frozen margarita – Los Tios joined the Adair portfolio in 2000 and has grown to six Houston restaurants.
For the Adair family, Fredericksburg was also an obvious first choice for growth: Nick Adair and his wife Alice own and operate the town’s popular Trueheart Hotel, a 13-room boutique inn exuding Southern hospitality.
“Having already-established roots in Fredericksburg heavily encouraged our decision to expand into the area,” said Adair Concepts President, Nick Adair. “We look forward to serving families and friends with great Tex-Mex in an environment that further adds to the community’s unique charm.”
In San Antonio, an additional Los Tios will be unveiled in a 5,500-SF space located at 4820 Broadway in a former La Madeleine.
“We have tremendous affection for San Antonio and can’t wait to be part of a community so rich in history and passionate about food,” Adair added.
In another San Antonio move, Adair Concepts will also open one of its Adair Kitchen restaurants in the former Jim’s Restaurant at 4108 Broadway in early 2025. The 4,000-SF property is just north of downtown and in close proximity to Alamo Heights, the location is an ideal fit for a concept that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Adair Concepts said it “looks forward to future expansion beyond its hometown borders.”
In 1988, Gary Adair opened Skeeters Mesquite Grill in West University Place. Gary, passing the torch to his children, Nicholas Adair and Katie Barnhart, the family has expanded to become Adair Concepts.
The Adair group operates Skeeter’s Mesquite Grill, Los Tios Mexican Restaurants, Adair Kitchen, Adair Downtown, Bebidas, Betsy’s at Evelyn’s Park in the City of Bellaire, Buffalo Grille and Eloise Nichols Grill & Liquors.
