Camden Moving HQ to Williams Tower

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) –  The Camden Property Trust apartment firm is leaving Greenway Plaza and moving its headquarters to the 64-story Williams Tower, less than two miles away.

Camden Property Trust leased 104,013 SF in the office tower, which was developed by Hines adjacent to The Galleria, one of the top shopping malls in Texas.

“Williams Tower offers our team members a first-class work environment along with great amenities close by. The building has been maintained well and updated where it feels as if it was brand new,” said Ric Campo, CEO of Camden.

The 1.4 million-SF Williams Tower, designed by Johnson and Burgee, was completed in 1983 and was known as Transco Tower initially. The lobby of the building has been renovated recently.

Camden is expected to move into floors 25 to 29 off Williams Tower next year. Avison Young’s Anthony Squillante and Dustin Devine, represented Camden in the lease negotiations. The landlord, Invesco Real Estate, was represented by Warren Savery and Nina Seyyedin with CBRE.

The 54-acre Greenway Plaza, located on the north side of the Southwest Freeway near Buffalo Speedway, was initially assembled by Kenneth Schnitzer of Century Development, which acquired hundreds of single-family homes to create the base for Greenway Plaza. Greenway Plaza is now operating under the  direction of Trigild Texas, a court appointed receiver.

Camden, which owns more than 170 apartment complexes with 58,000 units, has headquartered in Greenway Plaza for many years.

Upon completion of four properties currently under development, the Camden’s portfolio will increase to 59,227 apartment homes in 175 properties.

Campo, chairman and CEO of Camden, founded the firm in 1993 with business partner Keith Oden. Campo is chairman of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority and he has led a number of local civic and economic development organizations including Houston First Corp.
