Construction: Single Family Rental Craze Arrives on Galveston Island

GALVESTON – (Realty News Report) – Wan Bridge a Texas-based developer of build-to-rent, single-family communities, is developing Palm Bay Galveston.

Palm Bay Galveston, will feature 94 single family detached homes in the neighborhood’s primary section. The homes will boast a signature island aesthetic designed by the company’s in-house design team that will evoke the architectural style of other Gulf Coast resort communities such as Seaside and Water Color in Florida. (Seaside was designed by architect Andres Duany, co-founder of the Congress for the New Urbanism.)

Construction of single-family rent houses has been surging across the nation during the pandemic to the detriment of regular multifamily projects.

The Wan Bridge company will begin construction in December on the Palm Bay project after purchasing bay accessible land in the existing Bayside at Waterman’s community in Galveston.

Galveston, located about 50 miles southeast of Houston, has seen a surge in residential sales as consumers see Galveston as an easy commute and vacation alternative during the coronavirus pandemic, as detailed in a Realty News Report story published in August.

“As the build-to-rent  model of single family homes continues to gain popularity, it is changing the way of how we look at what is possible in residential real estate and in this case, even beach front and bayside communities have the opportunity to embrace this change,” said Kevin Stuckey, Senior Vice President of Development for Wan Bridge. “Whether an island newcomer or longtime resident, we look forward to offering both long-term rental homes and condominiums that are always in demand on Galveston Island.”

Palm Bay will feature both three- and four-bedrooms options with 2.5 bathrooms and living areas spanning 1,600 to 1,800 SF. In addition to the traditional single-family options, WB will build more than 20 condominiums located in the neighborhood’s “Fish Camp Reserve.”

Located at the 4500 block Stewart Road on Galveston Island, Palm Bay Galveston is on Lake Como, an inlet of Galveston Bay that features Galveston Country Club, the only golf club on the island, to the east and Galveston Island State Park to the west. Future tenants will have opportunities to access amenities that embrace the seaside lifestyle, including convenient access to the beach and direct access to the bay, including boat rentals.
