Realtor.com Moves HQ to Austin From California

AUSTIN –  (Realty News Report) –  Realtor.com, an online real estate services firm with a listings platform that attracts millions of visitors daily, has relocated its corporate headquarters to Austin from Santa Clara, Calif.

“There is no better place for us to call home,” said Realtor.com CEO Damian Eales, who praised the Texas economy, growing talent pool, housing growth and tech community. “Over the coming years we are committed to growing our presence by hiring great local talent and by bringing new recruits to Texas.

The firm’s new Austin headquarters are located in a midrise office building at 901 E 6th Street near the eastern edge of downtown Austin, about a block east of Interstate 35.

Realtor.com will close its offices in Santa Clara and Chicago, but will maintain its offices in New York and Scottsdale, Ariz., the Austin Business Journal reported.

“Thanks to our unmatched business environment, no corporate or personal income taxes, and our highly skilled, young, and diverse workforce, Texas is the right place for Realtor.com,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in an official announcement.

Texas will surpass California as the most populous state in 2045, according to a new Realtor.com forecast.

“Basing Realtor.com in Texas puts our company at the heart of innovation and inspiration at a moment of national economic renaissance for America,” said     Robert Thomson, Chief Executive Officer of News Corp, parent company of Realtor.com. “We are proud to be housed in a state which understands the crucial role played by business in providing opportunities for personal growth, professional success and community achievement. Our investment in Austin is a down payment on The American Dream.”

Austin has been a leader in attracting tech professionals migrating from other parts of the nation, according to research from CBRE. In 2021, Tesla announced it was moving its headquarters from California to Austin where it built a 4 million SF electric vehicle manufacturing plant.

Realtor.com, which manages the online consumer-facing listings platform for the National Association of Realtors, was founded over 25 years ago.
