Urban Core Expands in Bridgeland

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Howard Hughes Holdings has broken ground on Village Green, a 70-acre mixed use project in the Bridgeland master planned community in the Northwest Houston region.

Village Green will offer more than 28,000 of retail and restaurant space along with a 100,000-SF H-E-B grocery which is scheduled to open by the end of 2024.

The Village Green is a key component in the emergence of the urban district of Bridgeland, one of largest master planned communities underway in the Lone Star State. Howard Hughes has devoted 925 acres to the urban district, which is called Bridgeland Central.

“Today marks an important step in Bridgeland Central becoming a dynamic urban district and regional employment hub for all of Northwest Houston,” said Jim Carman, President of the Houston Region for Howard Hughes. “The overall size and scale of Bridgeland Central is impressively poised to meet the growing demand for businesses seeking a sustainable environment in which to thrive, while also providing an exceptional and coveted live, work and play lifestyle.”

Village Green’s elevated design reflects modern agrarian architecture and will have a series of inline retail and restaurant spaces, including outdoor patio dining areas to enjoy the Texas sunsets. Located neart he Grand Pakway, Village Green  retail will deliver a blend of premier national brands as well as a curated mix of homegrown local and Texas brands.

Growth at Bridgelands has been mushrooming.

In 2023, Bridgeland recorded 985 new home sales which ranked Bridgeland as the No. 2 top-selling master planned community in Texas according to the RCLCO consulting firm.

With more than 22,000 total residents today, Bridgeland is estimated to accommodate nearly 70,000 residents at build-out.

The 11,500-acre Bridgeland is a key development in the Howard Hughes Holdings  organization, which also developed The Woodslands and The Woodlands Hills in the Houston area, in addition to other major communities around the nation, such as Summerlin in Las Vegas.

Like The Woodlands, Bridgeland will grow beyond rooftops and retail, with commercial development and office space for job growth. Howard Hughes has a goal of providing 1.5 jobs per rooftop in the community.

A notable land acquisition last year – the 77-acre purchase by Chevron U.S.A. – is expected to result in job creation in future years.
