AUSTIN – (Realty News Report) – A 35-story office tower is expected to be announced soon in downtown Austin and local media is reporting Google or Salesforce may lease the entire building.
The site, called Block 185, is part of the Green Water Treatment Plant that has been redeveloped by Trammell Crow. Michael Dell’s MSD Capital is backing the office project with equity, according to a source familiar with the project.
Plans for the building, located on the north side of Lady Bird Lake near Shoal Creek and the new Google building on Second Street, have not been formally announced but there is speculation among bloggers and journalists that this is a done deal. A report in the Austin Business Journal seemed to emphasize a rumor that Google will be the key tenant.
Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects created a striking design for the building, which will have a prominent skyline position facing Lady Bird Lake. Pelli Clarke Pelli also designed the new 61-story Salesforce Tower, which was developed by Hines in San Francisco.
The Block 185 tower, 601 West Second Street, will be built on a site near the new Austin public library.
