Trump: Deal Will Bring 25,000 Jobs and TikTok Global HQ to Austin

AUSTIN – (Realty News Report) – Texas may gain 25,000 new jobs and a new corporate headquarters resulting from a proposed merger of Chinese-owned TikTok video sharing company with Oracle Corp. and Walmart Inc., President Trump said Monday.

“It’s going to bring 25,000 jobs, and it’s going to be located in Texas, and they look forward to doing it,” Trump told  the Fox & Friends program on  Fox TV Monday. In  addition,  Trump told Fox that he likes Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and considers him a friend.

Oracle has an existing Austin campus on the shore of Lady Bird Lake with about 2,500 workers and TikTok recently opened an office in the Texas capital city, where a number of tech firms have offices.

Gov. Greg Abbott said in a tweet that he talked to Trump on Saturday about the HQ location of the new venture which would be called “TikTok Global.”

“I let him (Trump) know that if he approves the deal Texas would be the perfect place for the HQ. We’ll see.” Abbott said.

The TikTok deal, which stems from Trump’s security concerns about TikTok’s penetration in the U.S. social media environment, is far from being closed. Several hurdles remain.

A Workforce of 25,000

Ramping up TikTok Global’s workforce in Austin would not be an instant thing.

In a statement released Saturday, Walmart indicated that the job growth would be a gradual development. “We believe this deal will benefit the U.S. in many ways, including bringing over 25,000 jobs over time as well as continuing to develop exciting, innovative products for people to enjoy around the world,” Walmart said Saturday.

The existing Oracle campus is located east of Interstate 35 and south of Lakeshore Boulevard on the south side of Lady Bird Lake.
