COLLEGE STATION – Midway Cos. has broken ground on a 60-acre mixed-use development with two hotels, office space, apartments, retail outlets and restaurants. The project, called Century Square, will be located across the street from the Texas A&M University campus in College Station.
Century Square will have two full service hotels, The George (160-rooms) and Cavalry Court (140-rooms), developed in partnership with the Houston-based luxury hotel management firm The Valencia Group, which also developed the five-star Hotel Sorella in west Houston.
Houston-based Midway also developed the City Centre mixed-use project in west Houston.
Century Square will be on a 60-acre tract along University Drive between Texas and College Avenue. It will feature: 200,000 SF of preferred retail, restaurant, and entertainment options, a specialty grocer, 90,000 SF of Class-A office space, an adjacent state-of-the-art conference center, open-air gathering areas spanning two-acres, and more than 1,000 parking spaces. Century Square is set to be complete by fall of 2016.
The two Valencia hotels will fill a Class A niche that is not fully addressed in College Station, which is about 100 miles from Houston.
“Our philosophy is to create an oasis where people can come together and feel comfortable and refreshed,” says founder, President and CEO of Valencia Group Doyle A. Graham, Jr. “The spirit and hospitality of College Station has been the perfect muse in helping us design and craft a refuge that will be enjoyed by all.”
Midway says the project also will be constructed using a “medium-density approach” to ensure the project becomes and remains a walkable destination, and incorporates additional design elements such as the use of corrugated metal, local limestone, reclaimed hardwoods and other sustainable materials which allow for the project to blend seamlessly into the surrounding community.
Century Square’s lush public spaces will offer a natural spot for the community and Aggie students to gather. Consistent with the spirit and culture of the region, Midway plans to activate these spaces with a variety of high-traffic events throughout the year, from local farmers markets to live music and outdoor concerts.
Brinsden adds: “College Station continues to be one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. and with Texas A&M University expected to draw more than 1.6 million visitors in the coming year, we are excited to provide an attractive locale where people can gather with friends and family.”
