Hunington Breaks Ground on 279 Apartment Units

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Hunington Residential has broken ground on The Vic at Sunterra, a 279-unit multifamily community in Katy, one of the strongest home building markets in the nation..

Hunington Residential has five new multifamily projects in its Houston development pipeline.

Hunington Residential is an arm of Houston-based Hunington Properties Inc., a retail center, commercial real estate, and development firm led by Sandy Aron.

Although Hunington has significant infill developments in Texas, the company has profited with new projects and strategic land acquisitions in the growing suburbs of the Lone Star State. In the last decade, Houston and Dallas have led the nation in new home construction – with wide leads over whatever city happens to be third.

Houston was named at the top market in the nation for homebuilding expectations next year. The 2027 Emerging Trends in Real Estate report, which is jointly published by ULI and PwC. The report draws on insights from nearly 1,500 leading real estate investors, developers, lenders and advisors across the U.S. and Canada.

Houston will benefit from its port, the energy sector, and high demand for industrial real estate. And Houston has low barriers to entry.

“It’s going to be a good market to watch,” Andrew Alperstein of Price Waterhouse Coopers told Realty News Report.

Houston also has more master planned communities in the RCLCO Top 50 rankings than any other city. New residential rooftops create opportunities for retail development.

But that’s not all. Suburban growth also creates opportunities for multifamily construction.

“We’ve had great success at developing at pivotal locations in master planned communities,” said Kate Good, Partner and Senior Vice President of Hunington Residential.

Hunington’s newest apartment project broke ground recently in the Sunterra community, which had 1,024 new home sales in 2025 to earn the title of the fifth-best selling community in the nation, according to RCLCO.

In early 2027, the next apartment construction project for Hunington will be the Vic at Tamarron, which will be built in the Tamarron community – another major home building location in Katy, Good said. That will be followed by another groundbreaking in Texas City.

The Greater Houston multifamily has shown improvement recently. The apartment occupancy rate hit 91.2% in the third quarter, up 1.2% from a year ago, according to the Transwestern real estate firm.

Houston has 803,000 apartment units and 12,000 more are under construction, Transwestern said.

Houston’s new multifamily development includes the conversion of an office tower at 1031 Main Street in downtown. 3L Real Estate is redeveloping the building, which will become 553 apartment homes.
