HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Amazon, which recently announced plans to increase its national square footage foot print by 50 percent, is finishing the year with a blizzard of deal activity in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Louisiana and Southern California.
“We expect to grow our fulfillment and logistics network square footage by approximately 50 percent this year, which includes significant additions to our fulfillment centers as well as our transportation facilities,” Amazon chief financial officer Brian Olsavsky said in a third quarter earnings conference call.
Recent Amazon Deals Include:
SAN ANTONIO: Hines Global Income Trust, which is sponsored by the Houston-based Hines real estate firm, acquired an Amazon-leased e-commerce fulfillment center northeast of San Antonio in the town of Schertz. The 1,262,294-SF e-commerce fulfillment center is located near Interstate 35 between San Antonio and Austin. Commercial Property Executive placed the price at $129.2 million.
MISSOURI CITY, Texas: Amazon is planning a 1 million-SF fulfillment center in Missouri City on the southwest side of Houston near the intersection of the Fort Bend Tollway and Highway 6, at 2303 Hurricane Lane. It will open in late 2021. Lovett Commercial is the landlord.
SAN ANTONIO– Amazon plans to open two new fulfillment centers in San Antonio. A new 1 million-SF fulfillment center will open in 2021. A new 750,000-SF robotics fulfillment center, will launch in 2022. In addition, a new last mile 350,000 square-foot delivery station will be built located at 8210 Aviation Landing. “Together, these three new facilities in San Antonio will occupy more than 2 million SF and employ thousands of San Antonians,” said Jenna Saucedo-Herrera, CEO of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation.
SANTA ANA, Calif – Lee & Associates negotiated the sale of 16.5 acres to Amazon on behalf of Caribou Industries in a $63 million transaction. The site is near multiple freeways and the former Orange County Register newspaper property, which is being redeveloped as 625IVE. Lee & Associates Orange‘s Office Advisory Group – Marshal Vogt, Matt Orville, and Jaimeson Hearne – with the help of partner Jack Haley negotiated the sale.
CARENCRO, Louisiana – Amazon is planning a facility in Carencro, which is near Lafayette – between Lake Charles and Baton Rouge. “This 1 million-SF fulfillment center will not only prove to be a tremendous asset for all of Louisiana, but the project also will result in more than 500 new, full-time jobs in Acadiana and surrounding regions,” said Gov. John Bel Edwards.
Amazon, which has 43,000 employees in Texas, has been constructing new facilities across the state. In Pflugerville, Texas – a suburb of Austin, Amazon is developing a 3.8 million SF distribution facility on 94 acres near State Highway 130.
An 850,000-SF fulfillment center is under development in Richmond in Fort Bend County.
