CBRE Expands Healthcare and Life Sciences Group in Houston

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) CBRE is expanding its Healthcare & Life Sciences group in Houston, which has experienced significant growth.

CBRE’s Healthcare & Life Sciences group in Houston has added Wesley Hightower and Emily Friedlander, two professionals with experience in that sector in Houston.

“Our health and life sciences practice has grown significantly over the past few years,” said Mark Taylor, Senior Managing Director. “Healthcare real estate has proven resilient in the midst of the pandemic. Wesley and Emily’s experience and proven track record will be a tremendous advantage for our team as we close out 2020. We expect additional growth in 2021 for mid-market investment sale opportunities and life science assignments of behalf of both landlords and tenants, and Wesley and Emily will be able to jump right in.”

Hightower and Friedlander both have extensive experience with healthcare and life science commercial real estate, bringing an immediate value to the team as the industry continues to grow in Houston. Houston’s Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world has 9,200 patient beds and 50 million square feet of space with $3 billion in construction underway.

The CBRE life sciences team, which includes Brandy Bellow Spinks, Scott Carter and Nelson Udstuen, has doubled itsoccupier business over the past 12 months.

In 2016, a CBRE report on medical real estate predicted that construction in Houston’s medical sector was on track for sharp growth. “Healthcare employment in the Houston area has grown by 42 percent over the last decade, but construction of medical office space has not kept pace with the job growth recently, CBRE reports. This indicates a need for new development,” the CBRE report said at that time. In recent years, Houston has seen the medical sector grow with major construction in suburban Houston.

Hightower joins CBRE as a Vice President, where he’ll focus primarily on tenant representation and investment sales in the healthcare and life sciences sector. Previously, he was Stream Realty, where he was responsible for growing their healthcare service platform, as well as investment sales, business development and leasing and marketing.

Friedlander joins the team as a Senior Associate from JLL, where she focused on leasing medical and laboratory buildings.
