HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – CenterPoint Energy, a Houston-based gas and electricity utility company, will acquire Vecren Corp. for $6 billion.
The deal will give CenterPoint reach into Midwest markets served by Vecren, a utility company based in Evansville, Ind.
Vecren shareholders will receive $72 per share.
The corporate headquarters will continue to be in Houston, where CenterPoint has 2.4 million customers. The combined company is expected to have electric and natural gas delivery operations in eight states with assets totaling $29 billion.
CenterPoint’s headquarters are located in the 1111 Louisiana Street building, a 53-story downtown tower that was formerly known as 1100 Milam. CenterPoint has 8,000 employees.
