HOUSTON – The H.E.S.S. Club, an event center that was once the home of Harold Farb’s lavish Carlyle restaurant, has renewed its lease for the building on Westheimer Road.

The late Harold Farb, a prolific Houston apartment developer, opened the Carlyle restaurant in 1983, The Carlyle was named after Farb’s favorite New York hotel.

For entertainment at the Carlyle, Farb himself crooned hits from the 1940s, singing covers of Cole Porter tunes and the like. Farb, who developed 30,000 multifamily units in his career, recorded five singing albums.  Farb passed away in 2006, at the age of 83, at his River Oaks home.

In 1996, the H.E.S.S. club moved into the two-level building, 5430 Westheimer, which is west of the Galleria, near Chimney Rock Road.

NAI Partners represented Houston Engineering & Scientific Society, Inc. (H.E.S.S.) in renewing its 21,466 SF special events and meeting facility.

Jason Whittington of NAI Partners has represented H.E.S.S. for many years now, having completed 10 transactions for a total of approximately 114,500 SF. These transactions included the sale of their original facility on Fannin and negotiations of leases at two separate locations.

Whittington once again represented H.E.S.S., during the negotiations for the event center renewal, while Henry Hagendorf and Dean Wilkens of Tanglewood Property Group represented the landlord, Franklin Post Oak, Ltd.

Established in 1918, H.E.S.S. is one of the oldest organizations of its type in the City of Houston.
