Katz’s Deli Expands to Memorial City and Austin

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Katz’s Deli, the 24-hour New York-style restaurant, will open a new location in the Memorial City development.

“We are excited to be part of Memorial City,” said Barry Katz, owner of Katz’s Deli. It will be the fifth Katz in Houston.

Designed by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, construction will begin in early 2025 and is expected to deliver by early 2026.

Katz signed a 6,381-SF lease for its Memorial City deli.

Katz Returns to Its Austin Roots

Last month Katz made news in Austin when it acquired the original Katz building at 618 W. Sixth Street at an auction, according to the Austin Business Journal.

Marc Katz –  Barry Katz’s father –  opened the original Katz Delvii in ths Sixth Street building in 1979. The Austin deli closed its doors in 2001 after working the 24/7 beat for 32 years.

With the Austin eatery and the new Memorial City location, the Katz organization appears to be in a true growth mode.

“Katz’s Deli is a beloved local institution, and their decision to bring their next Houston-area location to Memorial City is a testament to the ongoing demand for top-tier food and beverage restaurants,” said Danna Diamond, Vice President of Retail Leasing for MetroNational. “Katz’s Deli will serve as a great amenity for all of Memorial City, especially those working in the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center who seek 24-hour dining options.”

Diners will enjoy the beloved classics for which Katz’s Deli is known for, such as its deli sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, breakfast items and desserts, all available 24 hours a day.

Katz’s Deli’s Memorial City outpost will embrace design elements from its sister locations in the Heights and Galleria. Drawing inspiration from classic New York City architecture, the new location will feature white subway tile, mosaic floor tile, curved archways and a concrete u-shaped bar. The Memorial City location will feature a 5,260-SF dining room and a 1,121-SF outdoor patio. The Memorial City outpost joins Katz’s Deli’s other locations in the Heights, Montrose, The Woodlands and Galleria.

Larry Plotsky of the Plotsky Group and Meredith Cullen (formerly of Cushman & Wakefield)  represented Katz’s Deli in lease negotiations. MetroNational was represented in-house by Danna Diamond, Vice President of Retail Leasing.

Memorial City, a 300-acre, mixed-used business and leisure destination in  west Houston, is owned and managed by MetroNational, the visionary city within a city
