Marina Buying Spree Sails On

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) -– TopSide Marinas, a family-owned company that acquires and operates high-quality marinas around the country, recently announced the acquisition of April Plaza Marina, a 4.9-acre marina located in Montgomery on Lake Conroe, north of Houston.

April Plaza Marina is the second largest and longest operating marina on Lake Conroe.

This acquisition marks Texas-based TopSide Marinas’ fifth acquisition since its launch in 2021. The company’s portfolio also includes another marina just outside Houston, the Galveston Yacht Marina in Galveston, which it acquired in 2021.

April Plaza Marina opened in 1974 in Montgomery County, one of the fastest growing counties in the country with its rapidly increasing domestic migration and booming corporate relocations. Lake Conroe sits next to State Highway 105 and serves as one of the nearest recreational water areas and entertainment options for the more than 5 million living in North Houston, with more than 60,000 boats registered to owners who live within a 50-mile radius of the April Plaza Marina.

“April Plaza Marina is the longest-operating marina on Lake Conroe that has been the go-to destination among this strong boating community for nearly 50 years. We are proud to have been the top source for boaters to store their boats and maintain their property for more 12 years,” said Pablo Vasquez, owner of April Plaza Marina. “We look forward to the future of April Plaza Marina and know TopSide Marinas will continue to honor and build upon our family’s legacy by exerting strong values, commitment and providing a family-friendly atmosphere.”

April Plaza Marina has undergone renovations with a new dock built in 2018 with other recent improvements including a new gangway from the shore to the marina. The marine facility also includes a ship store that carries fuel, beverage, snacks and various sundries for boaters.

“We are excited to complete our fifth acquisition in our ‘backyard.’ We approach each of our acquisitions as a unique opportunity to build upon the personality each marina has established, and we look forward to continuing on the traditions and legacy of April Plaza Marina,” said Thomas Joy, director of investments at TopSide Marinas. “This acquisition marks a great start to 2023 as we continue to grow our geographic reach and family of marinas that extends beyond Texas, while also providing boaters a great experience at our properties.”

TopSide Marinas also recently acquired 89-year-old, family-owned and operated Larsen Marine, a 16-acre boatyard and full-service marine facility located in Waukegan Harbor, Illinois on Lake Michigan in North Chicago. TopSide Marinas also owns and operates another Texas-area marina, North Point Marina on Lake Belton in Temple, as well as Beavers Bend Marina located on Broken Bow Lake in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.

The marine facilities offers boat storage, boat rental and boat slips available for rent.
