No Santa Claus Lap? – Local Mall Goes to Covid-Era Plan B

SUGAR LAND – (Realty News Report) – Due to social distancing concerns, Santa Claus spending most of his time at the North Pole this year.

So, no sitting in Santa’s lap at the local shopping center.

But kids who can make it to Sugar Land Town Square can experience the next best thing, sort of.

Kids “will be able to safely interact with Santa like never before through a magical holographic snow globe housed in a giant wrapped gift,” says the organizer of the lap-free Santa experience.

A monumental installation dubbed “Santa’s MAGI·SPHERE” will be unveiled on November 27 in Sugar Land Town Square, where it will “serve as a one-of-a-kind seasonal focal point for the 1.4 million-square-foot mixed-use district through Christmas Eve.”

A hologram. It sounds fairly Christmasy, doesn’t it?

It’s happening in a 9,000-SF space at the Sugar Land mall. It was previously occupied by a Z Gallerie store.

The creator of  “Santa’s MAGI·SPHERE” is an organization called Flight School Studio.

The space will display technology that will enable Santa to project his three-dimensional presence in real-time to guests, who can share their holiday wishes while maintaining social distance.

“This is truly a unique and remarkable way to interact with Santa, and I know families will remember it for years to come,” said Brandon Oldenburg, Chief Creative Officer of Flight School Studio. “The use of emerging technology allows us to make storytelling and experiences much more extraordinary. This is especially impactful when re-inventing such a longstanding holiday tradition.”

Mixed Reality

The introduction of this activation is a precursor to the type of engagement that can be expected from Flight School’s upcoming brick and mortar endeavor at Sugar Land Town Square: a first-of-its-kind location-based mixed reality entertainment venue slated to open at Sugar Land Town Square in early 2021.

The Dallas-based Flight School’s creative team boasts Academy, Emmy, Annie, Cannes Lion, and Lumiere Awards accolades, and their interactive activations have dazzled fans at global events like the Super Bowl, NBA All-Star Game, and US Open.

Located at the intersection of U.S. 59 and Highway 6, Sugar Land Town Square has 223,000 SF of retail and restaurant space, 566,000 SF of Class A office space, 167 condominiums, a full-service Marriott Hotel and the Sugar Land City Hall.

Maybe the real Santa and his reindeer can return to Sugar Land in 2021.
