Shuttered Kirby Taco Cabana Site Lands New Tenant

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Cabo Bob’s is expanding in Houston with its first location inside the Loop.

The Austin-based burrito chain will take over the building previously occupied by Taco Cabana on Kirby Drive, just north of Highway 59.

Work will begin in September to renovate the 4,000-SF former Taco Cabana with drive-thru at 3905 Kirby, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The remodeling is scheduled for completion by Dec. 31, 2026.

Cabo Bob’s menu includes build your own burritos, tacos, bowls, nachos, and salads. The company makes food from scratch in store, including made to order tortillas.

It will be the chain’s fifth area location since expanding into Houston in 2019. Others are at 1810 Fountain View, 7103 Cypress Creek Parkway, 740 S. Mason Road in Katy, and 11940 Southwest Freeway in Meadows Place.

The Kirby Drive Taco Cabana was among several underperforming locations that closed last year. The location previously housed a similar concept, Two Pesos.

Nearby, Picos Restaurant will be closing its restaurant on the corner of Kirby Drive and Richmond Avenue on Aug. 30 as the property has been sold for redevelopment, the company announced on social media. Picos, which has served regional Mexican cuisine in Houston for 42 years, is searching for a new location.
