HOUSTON – (By Michelle Leigh Smith for Realty News Report) – CEO Nancy Almadovar, and her team at Houston-based Nan and Company Properties will welcome more than 200 top brokers from Christie’s International Real Estate at an invitation-only party Monday night. Hosted at one of one of Nan and Company’s multi-million dollar listings in Hunters Creek, the event promises to introduce the international visitors to “a new level of Southern Hospitality.”
They are here for a three-day Luxury Specialist Conference at The Post Oak Hotel. The agents have been selected from Christie’s International Real Estate network, and are no strangers to the upper echelon of home sales. The website has a category called “Buy or Sell a Castle or Palace”. The 948-acre circa 1772 farmhouse where Ian Fleming wrote Diamonds are Forever and Goldfinger is in their portfolio, as well as a pied a terre on Billionaire’s Row in Midtown Manhattan. They all arrive in Houston this week to further their knowledge in real estate and important luxury asset classes to better serve their clients.
The International attendees are coming from Argentina, The Netherlands, Portugal and Taiwan, to name a few. Agents from Colorado, NY and Miami will also fly in to H-town.
“The majority will be coming in town on Monday, but there has been so much buzz and excitement leading up to this moment,” says Almadovar. “Our Nan family is so excited to welcome everyone to Houston and show all the amazing things our city has to offer – the rich culture, art, food, and of course, the real estate!”
Nan & Company was selected for being a high-performing network affiliate, creative in its use of Christie’s and Christie’s International Real Estate to the benefit of their important clients in buying and selling homes and estates. The conference, available only to agents in the Christie’s International Real Estate global network, offers the latest insights in today’s ever-evolving luxury sector. Attendees will hear from executives of Christie’s International Real Estate, including Chief Executive Officer Dan Conn, and industry-leading residential brokers will share their secrets of success. Christie’s specialists and luxury partners will provide a deeper understanding of luxury categories, such as jewelry, watches, wine and interior design.
At the conclusion, attendees are designated a “Christie’s International Real Estate Luxury Specialist” by Christie’s Education. The designation is given to agents who have shown a dedication to exceptional client service by continuing to acquire expertise and insights to the luxury sector.
Natalie Hamrick of Christie’s International Real Estate said: “This conference is a Master’s program for agents who operate on the luxury end of residential real estate. Houston, being one of the wealthiest cities in the country and so immersed in art and culture, will serve as an ideal venue. Nan & Company will be the consummate host, showcasing this beautiful city while injecting the event with the real estate and luxury expertise their brokerage is known for networkwide.”
Christie’s has offices in London, New York City, Hong Kong, Moscow, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Palm Beach, and its affiliated brokerages have recorded approximately $500 billion of real estate transactions over the last five years. (Data as of September 30, 2019.)
Almodovar has been working in residential real estate for well over a decade. She saw a gap in the marketplace for a premier luxury real estate company, “I wanted to build a company that would be a one-stop shop for foreign nationals so that they felt comfortable and at ease, in a process they were unfamiliar with,” says Almodovar.
Nan learned the business by observing her father, José Arreguín’s strong relationship building skill with his clients.
“My dad used to flip houses and I was his Realtor,” she says. “It was my way to pay for college and he was my first client, which is how I first saw a future in the real estate business. I loved the feeling of helping a client, especially a first-time home buyer. I was immersed in real estate. I worked for another real estate firm for about six years and then in 2014, I decided to start my own company. I launched the business from my kitchen table with my husband and one of my best friends. Today, we have 72 agents.”
She will open her second location, at 725 Yale in The Heights, in 2020. “We selected this neighborhood because of its location, affordability and attractiveness from an investment perspective,” she says. “The Heights home market is definitely hot right now. Our firm is growing, so this second office will provide us with 7,000 additional square feet.”
How do you see real estate in Houston in 2020?
“Since becoming Christie’s International Real Estate’s Houston affiliate in 2017, our numbers have doubled year after year. This year, we will have $250 million in sales. We’re very optimistic about what is to come in 2020,” she says.
Almodovar is a graduate of the University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business.
