HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – The 266-room Hotel Sorella has been renamed The Moran CityCentre, according to hotel owner Midway Cos., the developer of the CityCentre mixed-use development in West Houston.
The 10-year-old hotel, which has been ranked by Conde Nast as one of the city’s top 10 hotels, will be given a redo.
HEI Hotels & Resort, a Norwalk, Conn.-based hospitality investment and management firm, is now managing the hotel, replacing Valencia Hotels Group of Houston.
Midway, a Houston-based real estate development firm with a mixed-use, office, retail, residential and land development portfolio, was founded decades ago by a man named “Moran” – the namesake of the hotel.
“This rebranding is not only a long overdue tribute to our founder, Jim Moran, but also speaks to his integrity, energy and enthusiasm, plus fun-loving and entrepreneurial spirit– attributes that we feel are core to the character and the mission of this world-class, independent property,” said Jonathan Brinsden, Midway’s CEO.
Midway Chairman Brad Freels added that the renaming marks another important Midway milestone. “Jim Moran passed away 20 years ago this year, and we wanted to do more than celebrate the 10th anniversary of the hotel. We are also honoring the man whose values guide every decision we make today.”
Midway says the hotel is a key component to making the 47-acre CityCentre a pedestrian-oriented district by further enhancing the guest experience with myriad shopping, dining and entertainment offerings within and around the mixed-use environment.
CityCentre is located at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Beltway 8.
Midway is preparing to start the CityCentre Six office building on the north end of the CityCentre development. Colvill Office Properties is leasing CityCentre Six, which will have about 275,000 SF of office space and 8,500 SF of street-level retail space. The site, located at the traffic circle at the corner of Town & Country Way and Town & Country Blvd., has been cleared and scraped.
Immediate adjacent to the CityCentre Six site, Marathon Oil Corp. is starting a build-to-suit office tower. Hines is developing a 500,000 SF building for Marathon there.
CityCentre encompasses 2 million SF, including 350,500 SF of retail and dining, 625,000 SF of Class-A office, world-class coworking options from Life Time Work, Spaces, and Fuse Dynamic Workspace, 35 luxurious brownstone residences, 1,155 upscale apartment and loft units, the 171-room Four Points by Sheraton–CityCentre and The Moran hotel.
“We paid attention to the details when building CityCentre and this hotel,” Brinsden said. “It’s the details that create the urban fabric and establish authenticity. And at The Moran CityCentre, guests are truly in the center of it all.”
