HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – The Museo Medical Office Building, which is under construction just north of the Museum of Fine Arts, has celebrated its topping out as the 10-story tower takes shape with a Picasso-influenced design.
The ambitious vision for the building, developed a group led by Dr. Mike Mann of the Mann Eye Institute and his Testa Rossa Properties, is to create a structure inspired by the Cubism art movement.
The medical tower “takes its cues from early 20th Century analytical cubism and will be defined by the art movement made famous by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque that used fragmentation to break up the forms and reconstruct them in abstract fashion to create an illusion of depth and perception. Like the avant-garde art form that is Cubism, (the building designer’s) architectural vision utilizes similar compositional tools that carves up Platonic geometric forms to create a sculptural building that deviates from convention,” the developer’s press release said.
The tower is designed by PJMD Architects principal and Philip Johnson protégé Marko Dasigenis in tandem with Dallas-based Huitt-Zollars.
The 364,000-SF building, expected to open this fall, is LEED certified for sustainability.
CBRE Vice President Brandy Bellow Spinks and the CBRE team is leasing the project, 5115 Fannin Street.
The Mann Eye Institute will occupy the building’s top floor. Houston-based medical practice Texas Laparoscopic Consultants has signed a 9,130-square-foot lease on the ninth floor.
All told, Museo MOB will not only be a new kind of specialty surgery center for internal medicine specialists, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and other medical and nursing practitioners, it will become a destination for cutting-edge treatments of all kinds, the developer said.
“Museo will be a dynamic place for a new generation of medical service providers who will be attracted to the building’s state-of-the-art facilities and oversized floorplates – not to mention the dramatic marble-clad entrance to the soaring lobby. We can’t wait to open Museo to the entire Houston community this Fall,” said Dr. Mann.
Museo Medical Office Building represents Phase I of “an expansive and forward-thinking mixed-use urban project inspired by the surrounding neighborhood’s dedication to art, science and culture that aspires to will ultimately serve as the Gateway to the Museum District,” the developer said.
