HOUSTON – The Great Southwest building, built in 1927 in downtown Houston, is being redeveloped to a Cambria-branded hotel by Choice Hotels International, according to Candace Carlisle of the Dallas Business Journal.
The 21-story building, located at 1314 Texas Ave., is two blocks east of Hines’ new 609 Main building and two blocks west of Minute Maid Park. Choice bought the property in 2016 as part of its plan to open 10 Cambria hotels in Texas.
Irma’s Southwest Grill is located in the ground floor of the 148,000-SF building, which was once known as the Petroleum Building. The building is on the east side of downtown, where a number of apartment projects have been built, including two from the Finger company.
