HOUSTON – The 20-story building formerly known as 600 Jefferson has been renamed 1801 Smith, according to Stream Realty and DRA Advisors. The companies are redeveloping the 450,000-SF building, which was completed in 1972 and acquired from Brookfield in 2014.
“The address change to Smith Street provides the building with the prominent address it deserves, as its one of the most well traveled streets in the Central Business District,” said Richard Barbles of Stream Realty.
The tower was part of the original Cullen Center master-planned, 12-acre downtown office project first announced by the Hugh Roy Cullen organization in 1959. The building was later known as Continental Center ll until Continental Airlines was purchased by United in 2010.
Stream also announced a lease in the building. Legacy Trust Company at 600 Jefferson. In January 2018, Lecacy will move its office from the third floor of the building to 21,605 square feet of newly renovated space on the 19th floor.
Barbles and Craig McKenna of Stream Realty represented the landlord, Stream Realty and DRA Advisors, in lease negotiations, while Legacy Trust was represented by David Anderson and Jay Cliburn of Fritsche Anderson Realty Partners.
Stream and DRA Advisors are close to completion on multi-million dollar renovations to the building.
In addition to adding a main entrance on Smith Street, the first two floors have been encased in high-end glass to create a jewel-box effect for an entirely new, upscale look for the building entrance.
