H-E-B Plans Sharpstown Store

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – H-E-B plans to open Mi Tienda, the company’s Latino focused grocery store, in Sharpstown.

Spanish for “My Store”, Mi Tienda specializes in authentic products from Mexico and Central America at low prices.

A 99,000-SF Mi Tienda store is proposed at 7140 Southwest Freeway near Bellaire Boulevard in PlazAmericas, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation.

The new construction store is projected to cost nearly $24.1 million, according to the filing. The work has an estimated start date of February 2027 and completion date of March 2028.

San Antonio-based H-E-B opened its first Mi Tienda, a 60,000-SF store at 1630 Spencer Highway in the Pasadena area, in 2006. A second larger store followed at 3800 E. Little York at Highway 59 in northeast Houston in 2011.

The Mi Tienda store would expand the footprint of PlazAmericas mall, a former regional mall that opened in the 1960s. The center is now a thriving 850,000-SF marketplace with high occupancy and independent stores, retailers with imported merchandise, and startup restaurants catering to Houston’s immigrant population.

Formerly named Sharpstown Mall, PlazAmericas is owned by Houston-based commercial real estate firm Baker Katz.

H-E-B operates more than 455 stores in Texas and Mexico under the H-E-B, Joe V’s Smart Shop, Central Market, and Mi Tienda brands. The company has been growing its Joe V’s Smart Shop brand, which was introduced in Houston in 2010 and expanded to North Texas in 2024.

Joe V’s Smart Shop focuses on fresh, high-quality products at low prices. Joe V’s is building a location at Highway 288 and West Orem in Houston and has another location planned in Humble, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Joe V’s has expanded to 11 locations in Houston and three in the Dallas area. H-E-B recently announced new Joe V’s and H-E-B stores planned in Garland as part of the grocer’s push to expand in North Texas.
