HOUSTON – Hines has broken ground on a 32-story apartment building next to Market Square Park in the northern part of downtown Houston.
Designed by Ziegler Cooper Architects, the Hines tower will be built on about one-half of a block bounded by Prairie, Preston, Travis and Main. The block is known as “Block 44.”
The 274-unit rental project will be complete in 2016, said Hines spokesman Mark Clegg.
A number of projects are under construction in downtown Houston following a city-backed Downtown Living Initiative, which provides a $15,000 per unit tax credit for new multifamily development.
Another residential rental tower is under construction one block from the Hines’ site. That building is a 40-story, 463-unit project being developed by Woodbranch Investments, which is an affiliate of BMS Management.
