Hines Starts Major Project Near Medical Center

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – The Hines real estate firm says ground has been broken on the first building in Levit Green, a 53-acre mixed-use life science district made up of more than 53 acres of prime real estate adjacent to Houston’s Texas Medical Center.

The 270,000-SF building is the first development for the broader nine-building Levit Green masterplan that will offer a curated mix of research facilities, office, retail, residential, and outdoor amenities. The five-story building will also include wet lab and incubator space. Levit Green Building I will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Hines and the Harrison Street investment management firm, in partnership with 2ML Real Estate Interests are involved in developing the district.

The Former Grocers Supply Site

As the former home of The Grocers Supply Co., Inc., the land on which Levit Green is being developed has a long history of being a place for commerce and the hub of Grocers Supply highly visible orange trucks.

Hines recently developed a 1.7 million SF distribution facility for Grocers Supply at Hines’ Pinto Business Park near Interstate 45 in North Houston.

Levit Green is near the old Nabisco factory, which was redeveloped for innovation space by the Texas Medical Center. The medical center has over 100,000 employees.

Levit Green is not far from the newTMC3 medical research campus, which also broke ground recently after it changed architects and did a redesign.

Hines, based in Houston, has a presence in 255 cities in 27 countries.
