AUSTIN – A new office building will be constructed for Texas Mutual Insurance Co. in Austin in Mueller, the 700-acre redevelopment of the city’s airport.
Texas Mutual Insurance, a provider of workers’ compensation insurance, plans to consolidate its Austin offices and move its headquarters with more than 600 employees to the new building in the Mueller community’s Aldrich Street District.
Catellus Development, the master developer of Mueller, will manage the construction of the four-story, 270,000-square-foot office building that will be owned by Texas Mutual. Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2017 with move in anticipated for mid-2018. The building will have 20,000 square feet of first-floor retail space.
The contemporary-designed building from Studio8 Architects is anticipated to feature abundant natural light with ample shading elements, including a possible covered deck on the top floor with unobstructed views of downtown Austin. The building’s engineering and construction firms have not been selected.
Mueller is a new-urbanist community located in the heart of Austin. The 700-acre site of Austin’s former airport is being transformed into a diverse, sustainable, compatible, revitalizing and fiscally responsible master-planned community.
“Mueller is becoming known as its own commercial trade area, thanks to our abundance of national and local retailers, restaurants and now office tenants. With Texas Mutual, we have another stellar employer anchor that understands the value of a mixed-use community like Mueller,” Greg Weaver, executive vice president of Catellus, said. “In addition to Texas Mutual, there’s so much happening at Mueller right now, including two new buildings in the Aldrich Street District, three new apartment communities under construction, a new section of homes, more restaurants and a new park nearing completion.”
