HOUSTON – (Realty News Report)– Ralph Bivins, author of Houston 2020: America’s Boom Town – An Extreme Close Up, will be discussing the future of Houston Tuesday morning at Greenway Plaza.
“Houston is at a crossroads, facing incredible challenges as it expands to become the nation’s third largest city,” said Bivins. “Will Houston’s leaders find solutions to make it the world-class metropolis of the future, or will growth issues be mishandled, leaving us to watch the city falter under its own weight?”
The presentation will be at 8:00 a.m. Sept. 17 at The Hub food hall in the 3 Greenway Plaza building.
In his newly released book, Houston 2020, real estate journalist Ralph Bivins lays out the projects, partnerships and personalities that are positioned to define Houston within the next decade.
Driven by one of the nation’s most diverse populations and economies, Bivins takes a deep dive into how Houston must now grapple with mounting economic issues, transportation problems and regular bouts of flooding. The 186-page book examines projects such as the Astrodome’s renovation, Pennzoil Place, Discovery Green, the downtown historic preservation, the demolition of the Pierce Elevated freeway and prospects for The Energy Corridor.
Bivins, equipped with years of experience in real estate news, collects the thoughts of numerous industry experts to deliver a fresh and insightful take on the booming Bayou City. Houston 2020 details foresights from business icons including developer Gerald D. Hines, home builder David Weekley and civic leader Ric Campo, CEO of Camden Property Trust.
Chief economist at the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M, Dr. James P. Gaines, cited the journalistic work for delving into the 10,000-square-mile Greater Houston area. In the book’s introduction, Gaines wrote, “Houston is, indeed, like no other city in the country and maybe the world, the fast-paced changes taking place have been witnessed and chronicled by Ralph Bivins over the years and presented in a remarkable work.”
Ralph Bivins is editor of Realty News Report, an award-winning publication covering Houston and national real estate news.
Bivins covered real estate for the Houston Chronicle for a number of years. A former president of the National Association of Real Estate Editors, Bivins recently received the Best Column award from that organization.
Early in his career, Bivins covered urban development for the San Antonio Express-News while Henry Cisneros was mayor of San Antonio.
Bivins will also be available for a book signing during lunchtime Tuesday at The Hub in Greenway Plaza. Tuesday Sept. 17. 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
