AUSTIN – Trammell Crow is planning a 37-story office tower on Block 71 – a downtown Austin site owned by the University of Texas System, reports Shonda Novak of the Austin American-Statesman.
The project will include 665,000 SF of office space, plus restaurants and retail space. Trammell Crow signed a 95-year lease on the university’s 1.75-acre site, bounded by West Sixth, West Seventh, Colorado and Lavaca streets, a couple of blocks west of Congress Avenue.
A historic building on the block, Claudia Taylor Johnson Hall, which was Austin’s Post Office in the early 1900s, will be retained and redeveloped, Novak reports.
A number of new buildings are on the Austin skyline, including new tower occupied by Google and a building under construction that will be anchored by Facebook.
