FORNEY, Texas – (Realty News Report) – BJ’s Wholesale Club, the nation’s third largest membership wholesale club, has entered Texas with a location in Forney and more stores are on the way.
Founded in 1984, the company Marlborough, Massachusetts-based company pioneered the warehouse club model in New England. It now operates in 22 states with 264 clubs and 204 BJ’s Gas locations.
“BJ’s Wholesale Club has been delivering unbeatable value and convenience to members for over 40 years,” said Bob Eddy, Chairman and CEO, BJ’s Wholesale Club. “Launching our Texas operations is a milestone for our company, and we know our model of saving up to 25% off grocery store prices every day will resonate with families in Forney and across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We’re energized by the enthusiasm we’ve seen in the community and are eager to welcome families to BJ’s.”
The new location, at 11150 E US Highway 80 at Gateway Boulevard in Forney, is a few miles away from a new Costco store. The new BJ’s store, totaling about 100,000 SF, will be joined by others in Waxahachie, Southwest Fort Worth and Grand Prairie in the coming weeks and one in Mesquite later this year. Gas stations opened Thursday in Southwest Fort Worth and Waxahachie. The company hasn’t yet announced any other clubs in Texas.
BJ’s Wholesale is a newcomer in a state where the nation’s top two membership warehouse clubs have long-established operations.
Costco, the market leader by revenue, entered Texas in 2000 with stores in Fort Worth and East Plano. Costco first opened in Seattle in 1983 and has 640 stores across 47 states.
There are about 45 Costco locations in Texas, including a new location in Forney not far from BJ’s Wholesale. Texas represents Costco’s second largest state by store count behind California with 135 stores.
Texas has the largest concentration of Sam’s Club’s stores with 82 locations. A division of Walmart, Sam’s Club first opened in Midwest City, Okla. in 1983 and expanded to Texas that same year with a Dallas store. Sam’s Club operates 600 clubs in 44 states.
BJ’s Wholesale offers everyday essentials including fresh foods, produce, full-service deli items, bakery goods, household essentials, home décor, pet supplies, toys, consumer electronics, and more. An ever-evolving selection of merchandise provides a “treasure-hunt shopping experience.” The store allows members to use manufacturer’s coupons.
BJ’s Wholesale has been expanding in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. In conjunction with the Forney, Texas opening Friday, BJ’s is supporting Forney Food Pantry with a $25,000 grant.
