Bed Bath & Beyond Combines with Container Store

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – The Container Store is clearing inventory to make room for a new retail mate: Bed Bath & Beyond.

Bed Bath & Beyond is accelerating a brick and mortar comeback through co-branded locations with The Container Store. Bed Bath & Beyond closed its stores after filing for bankruptcy in 2023.

Now, the e-commerce home goods retailer plans to roll out a combined store format at The Container Store’s 98 locations nationwide, including four in Houston. The initial store opened last week at 4601 West Freeway in Fort Worth.

The co-branded stores are designed to combine organization essentials, décor, and services in one store. The conversions will occur in the coming months.

“This is an exciting step forward as we continue bringing our Everything Home vision to life,” Amy Sullivan, President, Bed Bath & Beyond, said in an announcement last week. “By bringing together the strengths of these two iconic brands, we’re creating a more connected shopping experience that combines inspiration, organization, solutions and value for customers across every room in the home.”

Founded in Dallas in 1978, the storage and organization retailer is being acquired by Bed Bath and Beyond in a deal expected to close in July. Bed Bath & Beyond is also acquiring Elfa and Closet Works and completed the acquisition of Kirkland’s in the first quarter.

The Container Store locations typically range from 12,000 SF to 20,000 SF, according to the company.

The new integrated stores will combine The Container Store’s core departments like kitchen, bath and closet with small appliances and textiles, according to Bed Bath & Beyond. New areas will be added for areas such as dining, bedding and curtains.

Bed Bath & Beyond is not the only shuttered retailer returning with a physical presence.

Office supply store Staples and Party City recently announced a partnership to bring Party City inside more than 700 Staples locations nationwide and on Staples.com. Financially troubled Party City closed up shop in early 2025.

The Container Store has area locations at 2511 Post Oak Blvd. near the Galleria, The Woodlands, Baybrook Mall, and 5466 FM 1960 West.

Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. is the parent company to buybuy BABY, Overstock, and Kirkland’s. Some Kirkland’s locations are converting to the Bed Bath & Beyond name. Shares for the Murray, Utah-based company trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BBBY.

The company is led by Marcus Lemonis as Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Lemonis has a high profile as star of realty show The Fixer focused on small business success.
