IKEA Opens Bay Area Store

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – IKEA announced the grand opening of its Webster store, the home furnishing retailer’s 10th Texas location and second area large format store since entering Houston in the early 1990s.

The 93,000‑SF store is located in the Center at Baybrook, at 19801  Gulf Freeway near West Bay Area Boulevard, to serve the Webster, Clear Lake, Friendswood, and other communities on the south side of Houston. The center is catty-corner from Baybrook Mall.

“We are proud to open our 10th store in the state of Texas as we continue to expand across the region,” said Rob Olson, Interim CEO of IKEA U.S. “IKEA Webster marks our third store opening in Texas this year and reflects our investment in making the IKEA experience more affordable, accessible and convenient, while inspiring customers to design their dream space.”

The new Webster store, set to open June 26, sells over 7,000 products, including 4,800 items in stock for purchase on the spot. Designers will be available to help with selections. It will be one of 60 locations in the U.S.

The one-story layout includes furnished showrooms and an As‑is Department, offering discounts on gently used products. The Swedish food area will serve items such as meatballs, plant balls, hot dogs, and veggie dogs.

IKEA’s Houston store on Interstate 10 near Silber Road is centrally located just outside Loop 610. The two-story store was rebuilt from the ground up in 2004 and contains almost 200,000 SF, according to Harris Central Appraisal District records.

As part of a strategy to make shopping and planning more convenient, the company expanded with the first of its kind IKEA Katy Plan & order point center in La Centerra at Cinco Ranch in 2024. Designers can help with selections and products at the 5,500-SF showroom. The company opened several 1,000-SF Plan and order points with Pickup locations within selected Best Buys last year.

IKEA joins Going, Going, Gone!, the discount outlet of Dick’s Sporting Goods, and EOS Fitness in the Center at Baybrook, a property of Kimco Realty. In other retail expansions, Sprouts Farmers Market recently opened as an anchor tenant in Kimco’s nearby Baybrook Gateway.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming customers to our second store in the Houston metro area,” said Fredrik Rabe, Market Manager, IKEA Houston. “IKEA Webster reflects our continued investment in the region, and we’re excited to celebrate this milestone with the community at our grand opening.”

Ikea’s grand opening will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.
