HOUSTON – Sprouts Farmers Market will soon open in Webster as part of the organic grocer’s expansion in the Houston market.
The Phoenix-based company will kick off the grand opening weekend on Friday, May 29, at Baybrook Gateway. The shopping center, owned by Kimco, is located at 1001 W. Bay Area Blvd. across Interstate 45 from Baybrook Mall.
With a store layout centered on fresh produce, Sprouts aims to make healthy food accessible and affordable. The company, which will operate nine Houston area stores including the newest location, has opened about 40 stores over the last year. A Kingwood store took over part of a former H-E-B at 4303 Kingwood Drive in April.
While Sprouts has continued to add stores, the company closed 11 underperforming locations, including three in the Houston market, in 2023 as the company shifted to smaller store footprints that are less expensive to operate.
Newer stores feature a smaller format, typically 21,000 SF to 25,000 SF, compared to an average size of 28,000 SF overall, according to Sprouts.

The new Webster store, containing 23,800 SF, occupies a former Party City, which closed all its stores following a 2024 bankruptcy. Party City now operates inside select Staples stores as part of a recently announced collaboration.
Sprouts is among several grocers that have backfilled spaces vacated by other retailers. Other grocers are also expanding into new and existing spaces. Joe V’s Smart Shop, a low cost offering of H-E-B, is building a new store on Highway 288 at West Orem and is also planning a location on Houston’s northeast side. Sam’s Club has new stores underway at new retail projects in Katy and Tomball. BJ’s Wholesale Club recently entered Texas with stores in the Dallas area.
Founded in 2002, Sprouts Farmers Market operates more than 480 stores in 25 states nationwide.
