HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – NAIOP, a commercial real estate association with over 21,000 members and 55 chapters in North America, has changed its name.
As of July 1, it is called the Commercial Real Estate Development Association.
The association traces its roots to 1967 when the National Association of Industrial Parks (NAIP) was formed in Fort Washington, Pa.
As office development became an increasingly important part of members’ businesses, in 1976, the association changed its name to the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP).
The latest name change reflects the association’s membership now includes developers of office and industrial properties along with professionals involved in multifamily, retail centers, data centers, life-sciences properties, mixed-use developments and more.
“For nearly six decades, our association has been the trusted advocate and convening force for commercial real estate,” said Celeste Tanner, 2026 association chair and president/chief development officer of Confluent Development, based in Denver. “While our name is changing, our mission remains the same: advancing commercial real estate development through advocacy, research, education and connections that help our members succeed and strengthen the commercial real estate industry. Our new name clarifies our role to policymakers, business leaders and the public.”
The association has grown alongside the commercial real estate industry while remaining a trusted source of advocacy, education, research and professional development.”
Philip Croker of the Rockefeller Group currently is Houston Chapter President of the Commercial Real Estate Development Association (CREDA).
“Commercial real estate development powers businesses, communities and the broader economy, and our new name better reflects the scale and scope of this important work,” said Heath Johnson, president of CREDA DFW in North Texas and senior vice president and market officer for Prologis.
