SPRING, Texas — Construction has started on the 337-room Marriott CityPlace hotel in the Springwoods Village community, where the Exxon Mobil campus is located in north Houston.

Dallas-based Woodbine Development in partnership with CDC Houston and USAA Real Estate Co. announced the 10-story hotel project, slated to open in November 2018.

The Marriott hotel anchors the eastern end of CityPlace, a 60-acre fully integrated, mixed-use district in Springwoods Village, facing CityPlace Park and next to the public CityPlace Plaza.

Woodbine is the developer and asset manager for the hotel. Gensler is the architect and designer, and Austin Commercial is the general contractor. Financing is being provided through a partnership between Commerce Bank and Frost Bank.

Woodbine developed two nearby hotels: the Courtyard by Marriott Springwoods Village and the extended-stay Residence Inn Houston Springwoods Village.

Marriott CityPlace at Springwoods Village will be the first full-service hotel within the master-planned community, which landed the 385-acre, 3 million SF Exxon Mobil facility, which opened about two years ago. A number of single-family and multifamily homes have been built in Springwoods Village following the Exxon Mobil announcement.

The Exxon Mobil campus reportedly ramped up to about 10,000 employees, but over 1,000 of them retired from the company in the first quarter of 2017.
