Rooftop Redo: Phoenix Tower Sky Terrace Updated

HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – The owners of the 34-story Phoenix Tower in Greenway Plaza have completed renovation of the Sky Terrace on the ninth floor of the building.

The renovations include replacement of existing St. Augustine grass with artificial turf, improvement to the Terrace’s serene reflection pool, the incorporation of new seating areas with assorted lawn games, and the addition of Adirondack chairs to the lounging options.

The building located at the northwest corner of Buffalo Speedway and the Southwest Freeway, has more than 600,000 SF of office space.

“The Phoenix Tower Sky Terrace is one of several signature outdoor gathering spaces that are hallmarks of the Greenway Plaza campus,” said Eric Siegrist, director of leasing for Parkway Property Investments. “These carefully considered improvements were designed to make the Sky Terrace an even more attractive venue for tenant gatherings, special occasions, dining, or relaxing and recharging.”

The updates to the Sky Terrace serve as a complement to the forthcoming completion – in late 2019 – of an approximately 247,000-SF garage annex that will comprise eight floors and 600 spaces. The addition will adjoin Phoenix Tower’s original eight-story garage and provide direct, covered access to The Hub, the restaurant and amenity core of the Greenway Plaza complex.

When the building opened in 1984, Houston’s office market was sliding into incredible lows due to a decline in the energy industry. Phoenix Tower was known as one of Houston’s “see through” buildings which were plagued by vacancy for years. It is now considered part of Greenway Plaza, a 4 million SF office/mixed-use development by Century Development. Kenneth Schnitzer assembled the site, quietly acquiring hundreds of single-family homes.
