HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Casey’s General Stores, a Fortune 500 convenience store chain, is making another acquisition in Texas as part of a national expansion.
Casey’s reached an agreement to acquire Pak-A-Sak, a family owned and operated business with 24 locations in the Texas Panhandle, according to C-Store Dive. Terms were not disclosed.
Amarillo-based Pak-A-Sak was founded by Dale and Joyce McKee with a store in Canyon, Texas in 1978. The chain is operated by the family’s third generation.
Small Town Focus
The proposed Pak-A-Sak deal follows Casey’s $1.145 billion acquisition of Fikes Wholesale, owner of CEFCO Convenience Stores, in 2024. That acquisition – the largest in the company’s history – added 198 retail stores, including 148 in Texas. The stores are being converted to the Casey’s name.
Casey’s operates nearly 3,000 stores in 19 states. It is relatively new to Texas, entering the state in 2023 with the acquisition of 22 Lone Star Food Stores. About two-thirds of the company’s stores are in small towns.
Headquartered in Ankeny, Iowa, Casey’s was founded in 1968. It is the nation’s third largest convenience store chain, behind 7-Eleven and Alimentation Couche-Tard (Circle K), according to CSP.
Strategic Expansion
Casey’s plans to open at least 120 stores in fiscal 2027 through new builds and acquisitions, according to company reports. In the coming years, the company aims to open 400 stores and expand its food business as part of a three-year strategic plan. The stores, which sell house-made pizzas, donuts, and sandwiches, are all company owned.
Casey’s reported nearly $17.6 billion in revenue in fiscal 2026, up from $15.9 billion the prior year. Shares trade on NASDAQ.
Other C-store chains are also expanding. Quik Trip, which operates more than 1,250 stores in 23 states, has opened more than a dozen stores in the Houston market. The Tulsa-based chain recently expanded into Utah.
Buc-ee’s, the popular Texas chain that’s building stores in Texas and beyond, recently opened a nearly 75,000-SF travel center in San Marcos and will soon open its first Arkansas store in Benton. Buc-ee’s has 57 stores in 13 states.
